Parklet Info & Updates

Bring a parklet to Ravenna / Roosevelt!
16th Ave NE Parklet Proposal
Ravenna Rocks is interested in sponsoring a Seattle City Parklet on 16th Ave NE directly outside of the Ravenna Rocks building. The proposal will be developed to request a new open-air, accessible, public space on the planting strip, with the possibility of extension into 1-2 parking spots on the street. This would be available to the public year-round. Please consider a separate letter of support if you feel strongly, or sign and explain below why you are offering your support.
Note: we will be working on this in conjunction with a designated food truck parking spot nearby.
To proceed with an application, we will need:
--at least 3 letters from businesses, residents, community groups, or property owners
----at least one of these letters must be from a neighbor on the same block
--petition or support log to show widespread support of the project
Please consider signing our online petition! If you would like to provide a letter of support, we have sample templates to help you get started!

Parklet Proposal Updates
We will plan to post major updates to the process on this webpage.
As of 8/1/2024, we have retained an architect to facilitate design and plan to begin neighborhood outreach this week by collecting petitions and letters of support.

What is a parklet?
A parklet is a small segment of the right-of-way that has been converted from a private automobile parking space to a public space for all to enjoy. Parklets are generally one or two parking spaces long, although they can stretch for an entire block face or more.

Our proposal for 16th ave NE is to request use of the planting strip plus 1-2 parking spots directly outside Ravenna Rocks, and add a designated food truck parking space behind it.
Why do we want a parklet?
We live in a city with a limited number of neighborhood parks, open spaces, and safe third places. Parklets provide privately-funded and privately-maintained public spaces for people to read, sip a cup of coffee, enjoy a bite to eat, and socialize. Parklets convert on-street parking spaces into community gathering places, creating more vibrant commercial districts.

How long does a parklet take?
After reviewing all of the various permits and funding requirements, we think that if we have the support of the community, we could open it in approximately 1 year ~mid-late summer 2025
